Abbas Jalilian, known as Ako, is an Iranian Kurdish writer, lexicographer, and folklore researcher from Iranian Kurdistan. He was born on December 14, 1970, in Eslamabad-e Gharb, Kermanshah Province. Jalilian is best known for his Kurdish-Kurdish-Persian dictionary titled “Farhang-e Bashur”, which includes 68,000 words from various Kurdish dialects. His other notable works include the five-volume collection “Zarineh and Simineh” (a study of Kurdish folklore in Kermanshah), “Tarikkhaneh” (a research work on the history and geography of Kermanshah), the Kurdish short story collection “Rangameh”, and the first Kurdish novel from Kermanshah titled “Agar Maluch”. In 2019, he won the Bashur Literary Award, and in 2023, he received the prestigious “Khelat-e Bala” award. Jalilian was arrested in 2009 and, after two months in detention, was sentenced to 15 months in prison on charges of “espionage-related activities.”
